Preparing for a Visit

Whether you’re arriving at our office for an appointment, a drop-off, a surgery, or because you’re picking your pet up, you may call us at (301) 948-0158 to check in or you may come inside and check in at the front desk.

If you choose to remain curbside, we will reach out to let you know when we are ready or a Technician will greet you outside. If you would like to come into the exam room with your pet, you may wait outside or wait in the lobby until a Technician greets you.

Please see the information below for specific and detailed information along with client resources:

    • Arrive to your appointment and call (301) 948-0158 to check in from the parking lot or come inside and check in at the front desk.

    • You may be instructed to go directly into the exam room. Please come inside promptly, as delays during intake may affect other appointment times.

    • We will let you know what exam room (1,2,3, or 4) you will be seen in. The room numbers are above the doors. Only enter your designated exam room, and only enter through an open exam room door. Do not open any closed exam room doors.

    • Once you are in your exam room, wait for the technician to come in and take your pet’s vitals, and at this time, go over any pertinent medical issues that you would like examined during your pet’s visit, so that the doctor / technician team may be prepared for your pet’s exam.

    • After your pet’s appointment is finished, you may pay via credit card, debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay from the exam room.

    • Call our office at (301) 948-0158 to schedule. Laytonsville Veterinary Practice does not accept walk-in visits.

    • Fill out the Drop-Off Consent Form - this form must be filled out for your pet’s exam and diagnostics to be initiated. Please give adequate history of your pet’s recent symptoms, as this information will help us better guide your pet’s visit. In the case of life-threatening and critical emergencies such as severe labored breathing, you may be asked by our front staff to forego the form, and head over immediately. This is because our staff has identified that your pet’s emergency cannot wait for you to fill out the form, and you may complete the form from your car or the lobby after your pet has been brought into the hospital to start stabilization.

    • After your appointment is scheduled and your form has been filled out, head over immediately. The sooner you arrive to your pet’s drop-off visit, the sooner we may be able to examine them. Delays in drop-off may affect other appointment times.

    • Once you arrive, you may call to check in or come inside and check in at the front desk.

    • Once we are ready for your pet, a technician will greet you in the lobby or outside.

    • Once inside, our team of highly trained staff will get vitals on your pet and determine whether there is a critical or life-threatening emergency.

    • If your pet is experiencing a critical or life-threatening emergency, they will be seen immediately.

    • If your pet is stable and not experiencing a life-threatening emergency, they will be examined by a doctor in order of severity.

    • If diagnostics are needed and you have approved them on your form, they will be started expediently after your pet has been triaged.

    • Please keep your phone on and audible while your patient is with us. Your pet’s doctor or triage technician may need to call you to ask questions, go over findings, or request approval for needed diagnostics.

    • Once your pet has been examined and all diagnostics have been reviewed, your pets doctor will call you to go over diagnosis, treatment options, and plan.
