Our Veterinarians

Dr. Claire Godwin

Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, 1984

Dr. Godwin founded the Laytonsville Veterinary Practice in 1988 at its original site on Route 108.

She designed and built the current facility on Sundown Road, opening its doors in May of 2000. She and her husband live in Laytonsville. Dr. Godwin has a special interest in soft tissue surgery and dentistry. She also has two dogs, a cat, and several Arabian horses that she actively competes in endurance.

Dr. Robert Fitzpatrick

Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, 2008

Dr. Fitzpatrick joined the practice in 2008 and brings to us a thoughtful approach to medical cases, and special interests in endoscopy and ultrasound. In his spare time, Dr. Fitzpatrick enjoys fishing and racquetball and spending time with his family and two cats.

Dr. Maggie MacKnight

Royal School of Veterinary Studies (Edinburgh, Scotland), 2018

Dr. MacKnight is a longtime Montgomery County resident, having grown up in Bethesda, MD. She decided she wanted to be a vet at seven years old and never changed her mind. After earning her B.S. at the University of Maryland (College Park), she moved across the pond to attend veterinary school at the Royal School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh, Scotland. She misses the castles, bagpipes, and Highland cattle, but she is very happy to be back home in Maryland and a part of the LVP team. Her clinical interests include soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and internal medicine.

Outside of work, Dr. MacKnight enjoys spending time with her Golden Retriever, Wendy, and her brown tabby cat, Chandler. She also dances salsa, sings, and is working on polishing her rusty French.

Dr. Alexandra Giosa

Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, 2020

Born and raised in Howard County, Dr. Giosa dedicated the majority of her time, starting at age 4, to pursuing a future in veterinary medicine. A graduate of Mount Hebron High School, Dr. Giosa went on to study Pre-Veterinary Medicine at the University of Delaware with minors in Biology and Spanish. Dr. Giosa obtained her DVM degree from the VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA (Let's Go Hokies!) where she participated in international veterinary medicine training and outreach programs through World Vets.

Her professional interests include behavior, nutrition, pain management, and client education.

When she's not working Dr. Giosa loves to cheer on her Baltimore Sports teams and spend time with her four-legged hooligans Rusty, Willy, and Simera.
